[nah this time she's just sitting and staring at the sky. she's broken, emotions machine broke.]

There was nothing we could've done. [she says, glancing at him as he wanders by.]

[ i mean same. he'll come sit down again too. he has no spiders this time. ]

I really wanted to. I tried to talk to him and Rang and I know others did too. For a moment, I think it might have worked. He had enough will to go out there and fight, but-- it was corrupted too far. That story. There was never going to be another way.

He said he would try.

[she says, quietly.]

Matsui, I mean. But you're right. There was never any other end to this. I've known it since Friday, but I had hope anyway.

Maybe asking him to try was the wrong thing. I'm not sure.

[ but that's also a sad thought. ]

What happened to Rang-- he had no choice. No decision that he ever made.

That would've bothered him the most. Not his death, but the fact that he was given no choice.

[she sighs out slow.]

... His life was a series of not being given choices. To end this way was cruel.

All of this is cruel, though, isn't it? For everyone.

[ but he does - did - like Rang. he doesn't deserve this either. ]

It's just-- it's funny. I spent my whole life not making choices. Trying to avoid them.

[it's cruel for everyone, he says, and there's just a quiet sense of feeling like you need to cry but being unable to. heat behind your eyes, throat tight emotion. her expression doesn't change much, though.]

Being here must be a change, then.
