It's not bad. I was surprised to find a Fiskar, of all things, but, beggars can't be choosers. Better than the Lexus.
[ rich people are the scum of the earth
as he trots right back out and plops down in the drivers seat, nodding to the seatbelt and then pulling his own over his chest in demonstration to click it on. safety in deda land!!
he starts the car! it does not make noise when it starts up, so there's that! the ac comes on. it's very nice. ]
Once we get out onto the road properly, I'll show you how much fun these can be. Like the bike, but faster. How does that sound?
he watches her with the air conditioning for a moment, just sort of... smiling? god. it's funny - he felt shenhe's absence so deeply in the week they were separated, and watching her like this is making his creaky, broken heart a little soft.
he wants to say something about it. you look happy - and his eyes flick to the lack of red ropes, but he chooses not to, and instead just gives her a gentle smile in return. ]
All the same things as the bike, in the right hands. Put your seatbelt on.
[the funny thing is like... she is. she is happy, she's almost arguably happier here than she was while alive. there are a few things about this that make her miserable, obviously - she misses her team desperately and. well, she's dead. but...
it hasn't been all bad. this place is fun. it's chaotic. it's so, so different than what she's used to, and she's enjoying experiencing it. especially if this is the end. if this is it, she thinks she doesn't have a lot of regrets.
when he tells her to put on the seatbelt, she pouts a little.]
with that said and done, he will pull the car off onto the road! he's driving them off towards the west exit bus terminal for now, taking a nice, easy cruising speed before they get to their destination. fei du looks really at home here - he's in a new suit, he's behind the wheel of a car, spending time with someone he's come to consider a friend, and it seems like any of the trauma of his kill just melted right off of him. all things considered, if this is what death looks like, it's not so bad. ]
Is it strange to say I like it here? This is what my life is like, at home. Japanifornia was stranger - this is a city I've actually been to before. I live in a place just like it.
[the car moving is so disorienting at first because she can't quite see how they're moving - she shifts to try and look out the window, expression slightly startled. she might get carsick but it's fine, she'll adjust.
she'd distracted by what he says, anyway.]
I like it here too. [though she does miss the trees.] I'm not sure anything here has been like I expected, but...
[she glances at him.] I have seen a little bit of your city. You're right, it is similar.
[ he glances over at her looking out the window just for a second. ]
No, the maid cafe was a surprise. [ lightly - but, he's fine in the chaos. fei du is both social and solitary all at once, so, being able to retire away and have little moments like this match up well with being a goddamn gremlin the rest of the time. ]
That's right, I forgot - the VR room. [ home indeed, though, for fei du, yan city as home is complicated. he doesn't care all that much about the city itself, or the surroundings of it; he knows every intimate curve of its highest echelons, but there's only one little part of yan city that feels like 'home'. he'd more enjoyed getting to see liyue with shenhe. ]
Maybe if we all get out of this, we can find a way for you to visit, someday. [ casually. and then, after a light pause; ] There's a button near your elbow. Press it.
[there are a lot of places she'd like to visit. there are a lot of people she wants to bring home with her, people she wants to experience Liyue the way that she has. she wants wolfwood and vash to see real trees, and oceans, and lakes. she wants nahri to walk with her through the streets of sumeru, and be able to use her magic and enjoy the little things without being under watch. she wants to take fei du to mondstadt so that he can try the wine. she thinks he might like the traveler. the traveler would like him, she knows that.
she does as she's told, pressing the button that he tells her to. the window makes her jump, but she recovers quickly enough, smiling when the wind hits her face. aaaaaaa! yes! she likes this.
she's more of a cat than a dog, but the way she immediately leans out the open window is probably pretty funny.]
If you promise not to try and duel any of the cars, it's a deal.
[ teasingly. he pulls the car around to a stop light, smoothly shifting gears and waiting as he leans back in his chair, comfortable. the shibuya breeze feels good, and seeing shenhe just immediately lean out of the window brings a smile to his face. she seems freer, here. since the first day they met.
it's nice to see. ]
...By the way, you may want to hold onto something. [ uh oh ]
anyway, much like the bike - when the stoplight turns green, fei du grins, and pushes his foot to the floor. pedal to the metal. the fiskar's engine vrooms, loudly, and the car takes off as he shifts gears. they are going directly through the shibuya west exit bus terminal and shooting around those giant round ramps you have to fight minamimoto on in cursed another day. cursed.
fei du drives the car even better than he drove the bike, somehow. no jumps this time, but he is clearly having a blast as he flies down the freeway in a sports car with his passenger, living his best undead life.
okay, well, at first she's absolutely startled as fuck. she doesn't shriek, but she does let out a startled noise and grab at the interior of the car like she's going to die. but.
after a second? it's... kind of fun, actually. this is really fast. she's not sure she's ever been on anything that goes this fast, and also? he looks like he's having a blast. so...
after a moment, she stops grabbing at the seat with white knuckles, and leans forward. okay! okay. zoomies!]
fei du's even better with the car - he sends them flying around a corner with an expert spin of the wheel under his palms, make the tires squeal as they peel out and race down the corners of shibuya. at one point, he even throws the gearshift and puts it in reverse, then drives backwards around the alley in center street, right arm over the back of the passenger seat, watching over his shoulder, clearly just having like, a really good time.
which is good! he probably needs it more than he's really let on. he's egged on by any reactions, and only stops when they get to another stoplight - after having zoomed through a couple yellow ones seconds before they turned - hitting the brakes hard and turning to grin at her. ]
[just like with the bike - it makes her laugh, when he takes corners like a madman. when he reverses, she turns to watch him maneuver through the alleyway, expression bright and pleased. this, she thinks, is a little more fun than the bike, even.
and when he turns to grin at her, she gives him a little grin in return - it's something where her nose wrinkles and she looks impish. emotion, the way she hasn't been able to express since she was little.
a pause, and then:] I don't know if laws exist here, but that felt illegal.

the ac startles her, but she's intrigued by it. it's like anemo! little anemo vents... she leans forward to put her face up against them.]
